Good design doesn’t always begin at the drawing board.

Sometimes, it begins with a feeling.

A stop by Kuala Kangsar during the Merdeka weekend brought one of those moments.

By the river, small boats moved quietly across the water. There was open sky, greenery, old streets and a slower rhythm around the town.

Nothing felt rushed. Nothing was trying too hard to demand attention.

Yet somehow, the space made you want to stay a little longer.

WE ALL NEED SPACE TO BREATHE

Not just physically.

Life gets busy. Work gets demanding. Responsibilities grow. Families grow. Children grow.

And not every day is going to feel the same.

Sometimes we want to come home and talk, laugh and be together. Sometimes we need a little quiet. And sometimes, we simply need a place where we can slow down, clear our thoughts, and feel like ourselves again.

Perhaps that is one of the most meaningful things a home can give us.

Not just enough space for everything we own — but enough space for the people living inside it.

And that changes the way we look at design.

UNDERSTANDING BEFORE DESIGNING

Before deciding what to add into a home, we first need to understand the people who will live there.

How do they spend time together?
Where do they naturally gather?
When do they need privacy?
What makes them feel comfortable?

And after a long day, what kind of space would make coming home feel a little better?

These are not questions that can always be answered by a floor plan or a 3D rendering alone.

They come from listening. From observing. From understanding how people really live.

And perhaps that is where the best chemistry between a homeowner and a designer begins.

Not simply with a preferred design style, but with a shared understanding of how a home should feel, and how life should happen inside it.

A NOTE WE BRING BACK TO DESIGN

That quiet moment in Kuala Kangsar left us with our first Design Note:

SPACE TO BREATHE.

A simple thought — but one we want to carry with us into the next home we design.

For us, Design Notes is also a reminder to stay curious.

To look beyond our own projects. To keep learning from places, people and everyday life.

Not because we have all the answers, but because we believe taking our work seriously also means never stopping at what we already know.

There is always more to see.
More to understand.
And another opportunity to design better.

SPACE TO BREATHE｜皇城江沙

给生活留一点呼吸的空间

看得更多。理解得更深。设计得更好。

好的设计，不一定都是从画图开始。

有时候，它只是从一种感觉开始。

这个国庆周末，顺道经过皇城江沙（Kuala Kangsar），也遇到了这样的一个时刻。

河边的小船静静地划过水面。天空很开阔，有绿意、有老街，整个小城也有着属于自己的缓慢节奏。

没有什么在催促你。
也没有什么刻意要吸引你的目光。

但不知不觉，你就是会想在那里多待一会儿。

我们每个人，都需要一个可以呼吸的空间

不只是身体上的空间。

生活越来越忙。工作有压力。责任越来越多。有了家庭，孩子也一天一天长大。

而生活，也不可能每天都顺顺利利。

有时候，我们回到家，想一家人坐在一起说说话、笑一笑。

有时候，我们需要一点安静。

也有时候，我们只是想有一个属于自己的角落，坐下来，整理一下思绪，再找回自己的节奏。

也许，这就是一个家能够给我们最有意义的东西之一。

家，不只是要有足够的空间，放下我们拥有的东西；更应该有足够的空间，留给住在里面的人。

而这个想法，也会改变我们看待设计的方式。

设计以前，先理解生活

在决定一个家应该放进什么以前，我们更需要先了解住在里面的人。

一家人平时怎样相处？
大家最自然会聚在哪里？
什么时候，他们需要自己的空间？
什么会让他们觉得舒服？

忙碌了一整天以后，什么样的家，会让他们一回来就觉得好一点？

这些问题，不一定能够单靠一张平面图，或者一张漂亮的 3D 效果图找到答案。

它来自聆听。
来自观察。
也来自真正理解一个家庭怎样生活。

而设计师与屋主之间最好的默契，也许就是从这里开始。

不只是讨论喜欢什么设计风格，而是彼此慢慢理解——这个家应该带给他们什么感觉，以及他们希望怎样在这个家里生活。

把看到的、感受到的，带回设计里

皇城江沙那个安静的片刻，留给了我们第一篇 Design Note：

SPACE TO BREATHE
给生活留一点呼吸的空间。

一个很简单的想法，但也是我们希望带回下一间家、下一次设计里的想法。

对 Easyreno 来说，Design Notes 也提醒着我们保持好奇。

走出自己的项目，继续从不同的地方、不同的人，以及每天的生活里学习。

不是因为我们已经拥有所有答案，

而是因为我们相信——认真对待自己的工作，也代表着不会满足于自己已经知道的东西。

还有更多值得我们去看。
更多值得我们去理解。
也还有更多机会，让下一次的设计做得更好。
